New Exam Application Process

You should have already seen the announcements in IRSE NEWS about changes to the application process for taking the Exam.

Starting this year, if you want to take the Exam you must first gain endorsement from a Sponsor (an IRSE Fellow or Member) who is familiar with your abilities and experience, and who considers you to be capable of passing the Exam modules you wish to take.  The 2016 Exam Application Process document provides clear instructions, and it can be found on the Exam page of the IRSE website, together with the Exam Sponsorship Declaration Form (which must be completed by you and your Sponsor and sent to the IRSE as soon as possible).  There is also a “Guidance for Sponsors” document on the same page.

When you have received written authority from the IRSE (which happens after you have sent your Sponsorship Declaration Form), you can then complete the Online Application Form.  If you complete the Application Form without first receiving written authority, it will be invalid and your Exam fee will not be refunded.

It is very important that you obtain a Sponsor and send in your Sponsorship Declaration Form well before the application deadline of 30 June. We recommend that you send it to the IRSE by 31 May instructions about who to send it to are on the Form.

New Exam Study Guides

After a significant amount of work by some IRSE members, new Exam Study Guides have been produced for Modules 1,2,3,4 and 7 of the IRSE Exam. The new guides are available on the IRSE website, and each module has its own page containing all relevant documents for that module.  This includes, for each module, the syllabus, past exam papers and sample answers, the Study Guide and suggested reading lists.  We plan to have new guides for Modules 5 and 6 available in time for the 2017 Exam.

The study guides and associated material should help you in preparing for the Exam, and are additional to the information available on the Exam webpage in the public area of the website. Take a look at the Exam Support Resources Introduction, and at the individual Module webpages.  We welcome feedback on the new guides to help us improve them further in future.

Note:

All the Exam information is available under the “Membership” tab of the IRSE website.  If you have not yet registered to gain access to the members’ area of the website, you will need to do so in order to view the Online Application Form and the Exam Support Resources. Click on the “Register” link at the top of the home page and follow the instructions.
